VS FASHION SHOW // Our Favorite Looks

It’s finally here! The 2016 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has officially kicked off in Paris. You’re probably well aware of the hype surrounding the event. For starters, Bella Hadid is walking in the show for the very first time ever, and passing her ex boyfriend (The Weekend) on stage probably felt amazing for the first timer! The Weekend performed, while Bella got to strut her stuff down the runway and show the ex boy toy what he was really missing. Not only did The Weekend perfom, but Lady Gaga as well! So did it live up to expectations? Absolutely.

The outfits were more over the top than ever in Paris… we’re talking dramatic details using lace, fringe, leather, and more. While last year saw the runway debut of BFFs Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid their sophomore season was arguably even better: The former donned a pretty black-and-white number while the latter was outfitted in a spectacular black outfit with straps galore. All the VS veterans also made a strong showing, including Alessandra Ambrosio and Adriana Lima. It was tough to narrow down our picks, but we’ve rounded up the very best looks below.

We hope you enjoyed the show as much as we did!

Romanticized and timeless, a white dress is the look this season. I mean model and actress Elisa Sednaoui should be enough for you to know its a MUST. You can easily balance an embroidered version with a striking noir-accented accessory.

The only real way you know its the holiday season is sparkling sequins. Follow Dree Hemingway’s lead and go for a dress in single treatment color or really make a statement in a rainbow-hued design like Sonia Rykiel’s dress. Either way sparkling sequins is fabulous for this time of year just like your Christmas shopping.

Now, in order for you to be the Chanel of the season you must have ruby red jewels. These are essential for an holiday outfit. Update your jewelry collection with traditional blood-red rubies. A modern style ring or a delicate pair of studs look both fresh and glamorous.

Winter’s Hottest Trends: Street Style Edition

What is being worn by todays trend setters? Well, let’s take a look…

PshearlingShocking Shearling –

Shearling which in the past has been used as a trim detail or coat lining for extra warmth, has now become a winter style statement. Shearling made from real or fuax fur is now being incorporated into other aspects of clothing, from oversized collars, to full on coats, the extra warmth and fun texture is definitely a no brainer for this winter.

PplaidPlaid Perfection –

Now we’ve all become very familiar with plaid, in fact it’s pretty much become a staple in everyone’s closet, fashionista or not. But just because it’s the norm doesn’t mean it isn’t still stylish. Lately plaid has been seen on the street worn in oversized scales and bold colors. One of our favorite bloggers Chiara Ferragni from The Blonde Salad was seen rocking a classic red and black plaid coat, making it the focal point by wearing the plaid with all black.

PmonoMarvelous Monochromatic –

There’s a common misconception of what a monochromatic outfit is; which is that the entire outfit consists of different shades of grey or black and white. In actuality, “mono” translates to one, which means the outfit could consist of multiple shades of any one color. This winter we’ve been seeing tons of monochromatic head to toe looks. They are easy to pull off and always manage to look classic and put together. Playing with multiple textures and fabric weights is the best way to differentiate the similar tones and add dimension to an otherwise bland outfit.

 PtweedTons of Tweed –

It’s no secret that Chanel put tweed on the fashion map, making it an all time classy fabric, but recently we’ve been seeing tweed used in creative and innovative ways. Besides the classic coat, tweed is being incorporated into accessories such as clutches, shoes, gloves, and hats. Constructed with many colors this fun fabric adds lots of texture and elegance to any winter outfit.

Ppatent Playful Patent –

Most commonly worn as patent leather, this shiny fabric has been all the rage this winter. Typically seen on shoes, we are now starting to see patent leather incorporated into skirts, dresses, coats, and even pants! It’s fun, it’s reflective, and it makes a statement. What’s not to love? If patent leather seems a little too bold for you, start with basic black accessories. It’s hard to mess up and it still gives the glossy look.

Fashion Myths Busted – Winter Edition

There are A LOT of fashion faux pas floating around out there… you can’t wear black and navy, no white after labor day, don’t mix your metals…this week we are tackling some of the most common (and most absurd) fashion myths and busting them wide open. Let’s take a gander…

False! You can absolutely wear black and navy, and in fact it’s one of the most elegant color combinations of all time! The thing you want to steer clear of is looking too dark and flat. Add texture with different fabrics to differentiate the black and navy and try adding an additional color to break it up. Also accessorizing with bold pieces is a great way to add dimension to this dark chic look. Try a metallic belt or some great layering necklaces.

This is probably the most absurd myth of all time and though it’s been cleared up for the most part, there are still a few who stubbornly feel the need to follow this “rule”. (ahem, you know who you are) This concept originated in the 1950’s when it was seen as inappropriate to wear white dress shoes after labor day-aka the fall and winter months. Somehow this evolved to clothes as well and now here we are, unable to wear out favorite white button up because it’s December.

Well ladies and gents, this is so not the case. You can wear any color you want all year round, it’s fabrics you need to pay close attention to. In fall in winter, stick with heavier fabrics such as wool, cashmere, velvet because well frankly it’s cold outside. Add texture to a white piece by layering scarves, chunky cardigans, and a great winter hat. The easiest way to wear white is to play with black and white pieces. You can never go wrong with a black and white outfit.

Um, no. Florals are for all year round so don’t you worry. This pattern is super easy to incorporate into your fall and winter wardrobe, you just got to pick the darker florals. This means background colors like navy, grey, brown, black, purple etc.. My personal favorite is monochrome florals in shades of grey. This can add a fun pattern to an otherwise dull outfit but still sticks to the “fall color palette”.
